Sharing Our Heritage

Family Heritage Trail
We are actively working towards the creation of a strong sense of place among our community. The Tralee Heritage Trail and Family Heritage Trail projects support our efforts to share the proud heritage and stories of Tralee. We worked collaboratively on the Tralee Heritage Trail projects with heritage experts such as Mike Lynch, the County Museum, Tralee Chamber Alliance, Kerry County Council and Presentation Primary school. With the help of Abarta Heritage we have produced a self-guided tour in the form of a StoryMap and podcast of the Tralee Heritage Trail and an activity booklet for families who would like a free family-friendly activity. These projects were fully funded by The Heritage Council. Kerry County Council has provided funding for the publication of the Family Heritage Trail Booklet
The Tralee Heritage Trail is a wonderful tourism resource but also provide interesting facts on the heritage of the town for Tralee people and new residents. We also collaborate with other partners such as Tralee Chamber Alliance and Kerry County Council on their place-making work. View Storymap link here.
Species Spotters
With the support of the Kerry County Council Biodiversity Officer and Munster Technological University, we funded the creation of a species spotter sheet to build awareness of our urban wildflower species. These sheets have been used in our wildflower walks, by local schools and visitors to the town and we hope they will develop interest in species identification and recording.
Heritage Talks and Events
We organise walks, talks and events to share our tangible, intangible and natural heritage and engage with our community, local schools and visitors. Examples of our events include walks on the wild birds of Tralee Bay along Cockleshell beach with Kerry birder Ed Carty and on the topic of the Elasmobranch species that breed in Tralee Bay with MTU Lecturer, Louise Overy.
Guided walks to explore our heritage through the town centre and town park on the Tralee Heritage Trail are also popular. Night time urban biodiversity walks featuring Ed Carty and Ger Scollard of Irish Wildlife Trust and Tralee Tidy Towns are hugely popular with sightings of Swallows, Swifts and Starlings.
These projects help us to share our rich heritage in an accessible way with Tralee residents, visitors and Tralee diaspora.
